Get dancing this Saturday for International Day of Dance
On Saturday Galway city will be dancing its feet off at the International Day of Dance, an initiative of the International Dance Council, which is part of UNESCO.
The Spirit Centre in Nuns Island, in conjunction with Galway Dance Co-op, will host the Day of Dance and will offer dance and movement workshops for all ages and all levels of experience.
Experienced professionals will give classes in contemporary dance, Latin, hip-hop, swing, and yoga. Most of the day’s events are suitable for a range of age groups and the cost is €10 per class or €40 for a dance pass for the entire day. Under 16’s and children are half-price and family discounts are available on request. The day will culminate with a vibrant ‘Community Dance Festival’ from 7.30pm to 8.30pm.
One of the highlights of the day promises to be the workshop from 11.15am to 12.15pm given by dancer and choreographer Ríonach Ní Néill, Galway County’s current dancer-in-residence. Her stimulating and fun-filled workshop is designed to include all age groups, and involves a ‘Baby Buggy Céilí’.
All events will take place at St Nicholas Parochial School, Waterside, beside the Town Hall Theatre and Court House. Workshops kick off at 10am and will run throughout the day.
